Project: Digital Empowerment in the Himalayas ποΈ
Phase I: Foundational Training (October 2024)
Youth Foundation Nepal launched a crucial three-week Digital Literacy Program in the remote district of Dolpa. The goal was to combat digital exclusion by providing basic to intermediate technology skills to the local population.
Core Demographics and Reach
- Total Participants: Over 120 young learners.
- Target Group: Youths (60%) and marginalized women (40%).
- Duration: 3 weeks (60 hours of instruction).
Module Breakdown
The curriculum was intensely practical, designed for immediate application in daily life and enterprise.
| Module Title | Key Topics Covered | Assessment Method | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Module 1: Basic Computer Operations | Hardware, Operating System Navigation, File Management | Practical Lab Test | | Module 2: Internet & Email | Creating Accounts, Web Browsing, Internet Safety, E-Communication Etiquette | Quiz & Email Submission | | Module 3: Digital Tools | Introduction to Word Processing (e.g., Google Docs), Basic Spreadsheet Use | Document Creation Task |
Impact and Future Outlook
The most significant outcome was the participants' newfound ability to access government e-services and apply for jobs online, which was previously impossible. We believe this is the first step toward connecting Dolpa's youth to the national economic landscape.
Testimonial (Inline Quote)
βBefore this training, the computer was a mysterious machine. Now, I use email to talk to my brother studying abroad. It has shrunk the distance for me.β β Pasang Lhamo, Participant.
Next Steps: We plan to establish a permanent 'Digital Hub' in the area to provide continuous support and advanced training.
